Hi there!

Many of you have been asking us how UTMB and ITRA scoring works in our races. We’ve decided to write a short explanation to help you understand the difference between these two independent ranking systems.

First of all:

At our races, you cannot earn points that qualify you to participate in the UTMB – Mont Blanc. In 2021, the organizations ITRA and UTMB split. The organizer of UTMB Mont-Blanc created a separate ranking system for their event called “UTMB INDEX RACES”, and qualification points can only be earned at races labeled “by UTMB”, where you collect so-called Running Stones. Our races are not part of the “by UTMB” series, but they are listed as UTMB Index Races.

In our events, you can only earn UTMB Index Race points, and below we explain what they’re all about.

👉 UTMB Index Races include over 5,000 trail running events around the world. They are the lowest level of qualification for those dreaming of participating in the UTMB festival in Chamonix. For each completed race rated by UTMB Index, a runner earns points based on their finishing position. The index is both general and divided into distance categories: 20K, 50K, 100K. Each runner can check their ranking and score on www.utmb.world.

👉 What do the points give you?
They allow runners to take part in the pre-registration process for UTMB World Series Events, and in some cases, to register directly for a race. In short, they serve as a qualification system for the most prestigious trail running events in the world. More information is available at www.utmb.world.

👉 ITRA is an organization that evaluates the difficulty of mountain races and sets the standards for ultra trail events. Each year, our race courses are evaluated and listed among the official trail running events recognized by the International Trail Running Association.

DFBG – Super Trail 130KM and the Seven Summits Run:
Runners who start the Seven Summits Run but, due to unforeseen circumstances, finish at the 130KM checkpoint will be classified by both ITRA and UTMB as finishers of the 130KM distance, thus earning 5 ITRA points.
